Empowering parent and community involvement

The St James Pre-School Committee

St James Pre-School, a registered charity (Charity number: 1063711), is overseen by an elected Committee consisting of dedicated volunteers, mostly parents of children attending the Pre-School. Working in harmony with the management and staff, the Committee ensures the smooth operation of the Pre-School.

The Committee is elected annually at the September Annual General Meeting (AGM) and convenes approximately twice per term. Its key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting senior staff in financial and personnel management.

  • Ensuring the Pre-School adheres to high-quality policies.

  • Fostering partnerships between the Pre-School and parents and caregivers.

  • Organising fundraising efforts.

Each Committee member brings valuable expertise from diverse professional backgrounds such as management, finance, media, the public sector and childcare. We welcome parents and caregivers of all genders, races, beliefs, cultures or abilities, embracing our principles of diversity and inclusion. No prior experience is necessary to make a difference.

Committee Roles

Roles within the Committee include:

  • Chair

  • Treasurer

  • Secretary

  • Fundraisers

With a minimum of five members, the Committee plays a pivotal role in sustaining the Pre-School's operations. Your involvement is crucial to fostering a thriving Pre-School community and creating the best possible environment for the children. Without a fully functioning Committee, the Pre-School cannot operate and would have to close.

Our Aims as a Committee

The Committee’s overarching aims are:

  • Acting in the Pre-School's best interests, promoting its values and charitable objectives.

  • Collaborating as a team, actively participating in decision-making processes.

  • Undertaking appropriate Ofsted suitability checks.

  • Ensuring compliance with the Pre-School's constitution, charity law, and relevant regulations.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM, open to all parents of attending children, serves as a platform for reflecting on the previous year's activities and shaping the future endeavours of the Pre-School.

Being involved in any way, is an important way to contribute to the Pre-School community, help it grow and create the best possible environment for the children.

If you’re passionate about giving something back and would like to volunteer for the Committee or contribute in any capacity, we invite you to contact us at info@stjamespreschool.org.uk.

We very much look forward to welcoming new volunteers for both the Committee and our fundraising events.
